Breaking News! Reporting LIVE for Jane Unchained News Network at Santa Anita Racetrack where the death toll has reached 23! A group of protesters hold a Funeral and Vigil for the horses today. Commissioner Roger Wolfson of Los Angeles Board of Animal Services is speaking as well as other noted activists musical performers.
The deaths of horses at this track has been a regular occurrence since the 26th of December. These horses are only a few years old on average when they were injured and euthanized. Horses can live an average of 25-30 years, so why is this happening? There has been widespread media coverage of the deaths that have occurred, and protestors are hopeful that the more attention received will save these horses.
Activists are here today to demand better. The deaths of these horses under the supervision of Santa Anita Park is unacceptable to them. According to several reports, the deaths of the horses were a result of injuries incurred during training and racing. Santa Anita Park has been trying to make changes to their practices including reducing the use of whips and having veterinarians oversee horse training sessions. At this point after so many deaths, is it enough? We will continue to follow this story. Please support the newest bill SB 469 that will suspend horse racing in California if injuries or deaths occur. Racing an animal against it’s will and putting their lives in danger is not entertainment, it’s violence.
Call California State legislators and tell them you support bill SB 469 so we can protect these magnificent creatures!
